This proposal will introduce Drawing Vignettes
as a significant new creative method that challenges distinctions
between the disciplines of drawing and writing to instead unite their
vocative and interpretative possibilities to foster alternative speech
modes. This position will be used to further discuss a union of theory
and practice, drawing upon Davey’s theoria (2006) of theory and
practice as interchangeable discourses that have fluid modes of speech.
This position will be discussed through examples and performances of Drawing Vignettes
as a hybrid that acknowledges the limits and potentials of its
materials, asking how these can be reinterpreted and by doing so enables
a new poetic vocative practice to emerge.
