Ornamenting Words -Vocalising

     Meaning — Writing through Singing

This performance-paper proposes writing as an agent in an entangled process of learning and building knowledge through artistic vocal research. A relationship between 17th-century vocal ornamentation, the concepts of Nothingness and Je-ne-sais-quoi, and a distrust of the meaning of language has been pointed out in previous research (Calcagno 2003, Belgrano 2011). This animating singing-writing-adventure is a contribution to the debate on artistic writing with knowledge on vocal ornamentation as a writing-tool, promoting “experience of metaphoric transformation” (Stengers 2012) and a “trust in the power of the voice” (Calcagno 2003) within the process of writing.
